Algeria Mobilizes Enormous Potential for Continental Connectivity and Regional Integration

Prime Minister Saifi Gharib emphasized that Algeria is working to enhance regional integration, improve the business climate, and facilitate wealth-generating investments and job creation. During his speech at the opening of the high-level conference “North Africa: Connecting Continents and Creating Opportunities” at the International Conference Center, the Prime Minister explained that Algeria is mobilizing enormous potential to develop infrastructure suitable for continental connectivity and regional integration through an advanced road network spanning the country, as part of a realistic vision for regional integration, particularly the Trans-Saharan Highway.

Algeria is also implementing an ambitious railway connection plan, according to Saifi Gharib. This includes the western mining line, which the President of the Republic put into service earlier this week, and the eastern mining line, which will be ready before the end of the current year, as well as the North-South railway link. Consequently, the total length of railway lines across the country will increase from the current 6,000 km to approximately 9,000 km.

In parallel, the network of ports and airports is being developed, and specialized logistics platforms are being established in border areas to enhance trade exchange and stimulate investment, the Prime Minister stated. During his speech, Saifi Gharib stressed that “connecting continents is not limited to building ports and roads, laying railway lines, or establishing energy infrastructure—which remain essential—but it is also, and above all, a connection between economic systems, the coordination of regulatory frameworks, the facilitation of investments, and the stimulation of technology transfer.”

He added: “It is about building links that go beyond market borders to include ideas, horizons, and aspirations.” Furthermore, the Prime Minister affirmed that “the North African region possesses enormous potential, as it is rich in a rising youth energy that is becoming increasingly qualified and open to the digital world, in addition to diverse energy resources and huge potential in the fields of renewable energy, logistics, industry, and services.”

He continued by saying: “Transforming this great potential into tangible and sustainable opportunities requires concerted efforts, especially through strengthening coordination between the countries of the region, establishing a permanent dialogue between the public and private sectors, and building close cooperation at all national, regional, and international levels.”
