Tachrifet: “Da L’Hocine” a Beacon for Generations on the Paths of Sacrifice

The Ministry of Mujahideen and Rights Holders organized a historical seminar on Thursday to commemorate the national and human dimensions of the iconic mujahid Hocine Aït Ahmed on the tenth anniversary of his passing. During the seminar, which was attended by national figures, representatives of the revolutionary family, professors, and university students, Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders Abdelmalek Tachrifet explained that “Da L’Hocine” was a unifying national figure who carried a grand national project and noble values based on national unity and loyalty to the revolution, freedom, and dignity.

In this context, the Minister recalled the decision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to name the Tizi Ouzou stadium after this symbolic mujahid, making this sports and youth facility a living witness to the man’s greatness and a tribute to his national career. Tachrifet added that this presidential honor was for a national leader who placed Algeria above all considerations, embodying a living and resilient national memory that will not be forgotten, so that his principles remain a beacon for future generations, reminding them that struggle is what unites history with high human principles and values.

While recalling highlights from the late Aït Ahmed’s struggle during the seminar titled “Hocine Aït Ahmed, a historical figure with national and human dimensions,” the Minister recalled the hijacking of the plane carrying him and his companions on October 22, 1956. He noted that this crime, recorded as the first act of piracy in the history of global civil aviation, revealed not only the arrogance and brutality of French colonialism but also exposed the betrayal of the western neighbor, whose complicity facilitated this plot against the leaders of the liberation revolution.

Tachrifet also emphasized that national memory is a “fortress and the sacred link between our glorious past, our ambitious present, and our promising future,” highlighting that the mujahid Hocine Aït Ahmed will remain a school for generations and a beacon guiding them on the paths of sacrifice, sincerity, and sovereignty.

The seminar featured live testimonies about the late activist. Former minister and mujahida Zhor Ounissi stated that the symbolic mujahid Hocine Aït Ahmed was an extraordinary man who, along with others, cannot be forgotten, as such figures are rarely produced by time.

On the academic side, Mustapha Saadaoui, director of the National History and Collective Memory Laboratory, and Meziane Saïdi, history professor and director of the Contemporary Historical Studies Laboratory, presented interventions highlighting Aït Ahmed’s role and activity in the liberation revolution, specifically within the Special Organization (OS), as well as his diplomatic and media work. At the conclusion of the seminar, the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders honored the family of the late Hocine Aït Ahmed and the guest lecturers.
