Boughali: Yennayer Celebrations Reflect the Established Status of the Amazigh Language

The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Ibrahim Boughali, pledged on Friday to support the promotion of the Amazigh language by integrating it into the assembly’s activities and communication programs. This initiative aims to solidify its institutional presence, encourage its use within the parliamentary space, and enhance the legislative institution’s openness to the various components of national identity.

This came as Boughali oversaw the departure of a train designated for the delegation participating in the national celebration of the Amazigh New Year “Yennayer 2976,” as well as the sixth edition of the President of the Republic’s Prize for Amazigh Literature and Language, organized by the High Commission for Amazighity.

The train launch ceremony took place at the Houari Boumediene Airport railway station as part of symbolic initiatives aimed at accompanying this national event, which carries deep cultural and identity significance.

The event was attended by the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Azzouz Nasri, the Secretary-General of the High Commission for Amazighity, Si El-Hachemi Assad, and the National Commissioner for the Protection and Promotion of Childhood, Meriem Cherfi, along with several officials, executives, and representatives of official bodies.

In a statement to the press, Ibrahim Boughali explained that this celebration “reflects the established status of the Amazigh language within the components of the Algerian national identity and embodies the sincere political will of the state, led by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to promote and preserve the Amazigh language as a shared civilizational and cultural asset for all Algerians.”

The Speaker of the lower house of parliament also stressed the need to value the efforts made by the High Commission for Amazighity in serving the Amazigh language and culture, expressing his pride in the creators and researchers who contribute to enriching the national cultural landscape and preserving the historical memory of the Algerian nation.
