President Abdelmadjid Tebboune responded to rumors regarding his desire to run for a third term. During a periodic media interview broadcast yesterday evening, the President stated, “Those who promoted the rumor of my desire to extend presidential terms are individuals mobilized to destabilize the country.”
He added, “We work with patriotism and sincerity, while these individuals are paid and mobilized to implement foreign agendas and destabilize the nation.” President Tebboune also explained that the technical amendment to the constitution is motivated by the goal of building a true democracy based on a constitutional and political framework.
He recalled that the 2020 Constitution, which introduced new articles such as the constitutionalization of the November 1, 1954 Declaration, the Supreme Youth Council, and civil society, enjoys consensus on all its articles. However, he noted that there are flaws and gaps in the implementation of some articles, such as the ambiguity surrounding the partial renewal of the members of the Council of the Nation.
