Lounès Magramane, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the second session of bilateral political consultations between Algeria and Latvia on Monday in the Latvian capital, Riga, alongside Andzejs Vilumsons, State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks reviewed the friendly relations between Algeria and Latvia, based on values of solidarity and mutual respect. They also discussed ways to strengthen the institutional and legal framework for cooperation to provide further momentum, particularly by encouraging the exchange of visits at various levels.
In this regard, both parties reaffirmed their shared desire to consolidate bilateral relations across various fields by exploring opportunities to enhance economic and trade cooperation. This aligns with the potential of both countries, especially in priority areas such as information and communication technology, artificial intelligence, startups, digitalization, higher education, and scientific research.
Regarding multilateral cooperation, the two sides agreed on the need to intensify coordination and political consultation in various international forums to effectively address current challenges. Lounès Magramane expressed Algeria’s readiness to share its experience in the UN Security Council as Latvia prepares for its first-ever term as a non-permanent member for the 2026-2027 period.
On this occasion, the two parties also exchanged views and analyses on several regional and international issues of common interest, particularly those related to developments in their respective regions.
