Vatican Ambassador: Pope’s visit to Algeria will strengthen friendship ties between our two countries

The Vatican Ambassador to Algeria, Javier Herrera Corona, confirmed on Monday that the upcoming visit of the Pope to Algeria would strengthen the ties of friendship and mutual respect between the two countries, opening wider horizons for dialogue and rapprochement.

Following his reception by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to present his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Holy See to Algeria, the Ambassador described the meeting as very friendly. He noted that it reflects the nature of the relations existing between the Holy See and the Algerian Republic for over fifty years, which are built on understanding and mutual respect.

He explained that the discussions addressed, among other topics, the upcoming visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV to Algeria, emphasizing that this step will contribute to “strengthening the ties of friendship and bilateral respect existing between our two countries.”
