U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran had contacted him to negotiate after he hinted at a potential strike following widespread protests that have been ongoing for more than two weeks. Meanwhile, Israeli officials stated that the occupation state is on high military alert in anticipation of any U.S. strike on Tehran.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “Iranian leaders called yesterday,” adding that “a meeting is being prepared… they want to negotiate.” However, he added, “We may have to act before holding a meeting.”
The U.S. President stated that he is in contact with Iranian opposition leaders and that his administration is working to provide Iranians with internet access. He mentioned discussing this with American billionaire businessman Elon Musk, owner of the Starlink company which provides satellite internet.
Early Monday morning, Trump mentioned that he is considering a range of responses to the escalating unrest in Iran, including potential military options. He said, “We are following the matter very seriously, the military is following it, and we are studying some very strong options; we will make a decision.”
