25 killed in traffic accidents in one week

Civil Protection units recorded 24,089 interventions between January 4 and 10, 2026, following distress calls from citizens. These interventions covered various areas of Civil Protection activities.

According to a statement from the same services, 15,776 interventions were recorded for medical evacuations, during which 15,440 injured and sick individuals were treated and evacuated to hospitals.

Regarding traffic accidents, Civil Protection units carried out 2,035 interventions for 1,165 accidents, resulting in 25 deaths and 1,282 injuries. The victims were treated and transported to hospital centers, with the heaviest toll recorded in the province of Adrar, where 5 people died.

Civil Protection units also conducted 888 interventions that allowed for the extinguishing of 520 fires, including domestic, industrial, and various other fires. The most significant numbers were recorded in the province of Algiers with 89 fires, Blida with 37 fires, and Oran with 36 fires.

Additionally, 5,390 interventions were recorded to rescue 650 people in danger, along with 4,825 ambulance operations.

Concerning accidents related to carbon monoxide poisoning from various heating devices and water heaters, Civil Protection services carried out 39 interventions during the same period. These operations provided first aid to 77 people poisoned by this dangerous gas, who were then transferred to hospital facilities. Seven deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning were also recorded.
