African Peer Review Mechanism: Algeria Hands Over Rotating Presidency to Uganda

Prime Minister Saifi Gharib chaired the 35th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) today, Friday, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

During the opening of the session, the Prime Minister, on behalf of the current Chairman of the Forum, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, handed over the rotating presidency of this African mechanism to the representative of Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo.

In a speech delivered by the Prime Minister, the President of the Republic expressed his deep gratitude for the trust placed in Algeria throughout the past two years of its mandate at the head of the Forum. He noted that it was a great honor for Algeria to serve the continent by guiding the Forum’s work and contributing to the promotion of governance and development in its countries.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed Algeria’s full commitment to accompanying Uganda throughout its presidency and working side by side with the Forum to enhance cooperation and collective action. He emphasized support for peer review processes as a strategic tool for consolidating good governance and strengthening African mechanisms in service of Agenda 2063, highlighting that this tradition of brotherly cooperation will continue to enrich and support the Forum’s work under the Ugandan presidency.

The President of the Republic also expressed his wishes for the Ugandan President’s success in performing this noble responsibility, reaffirming Algeria’s steadfast commitment to contributing to the success of this African mechanism.

Members of the mechanism expressed their appreciation and pride in the contributions and commitment of the Algerian President to supporting this mechanism and his continuous keenness to promote development and cooperation in Africa. They emphasized that his efforts contributed to consolidating the principles of good governance and enhancing the paths of reform and continental integration.
