Sonatrach Ready to Support Efforts of Burkina Faso’s SONABHY

The Sonatrach Group confirmed its readiness to support the efforts of the Burkinabe National Hydrocarbons Company (SONABHY), aimed at developing the hydrocarbons sector and enhancing its profitability, within a framework based on balanced partnership and mutual benefit.

According to a statement following a coordination meeting between Sonatrach officials and their counterparts from SONABHY in Ouagadougou, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and explore partnership prospects in the hydrocarbons sector. This includes Burkina Faso benefiting from Algerian expertise in the production, transport, and distribution of petroleum products, particularly liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and propane.

The meeting also addressed the possibility of supporting the Burkinabe side in establishing a butane gas cylinder filling center and providing it with the necessary equipment, such as cylinders and accessories, in addition to developing training programs in this field.

Furthermore, the discussions covered opportunities for exchanging expertise and technical knowledge, enhancing training programs, and building human capacities, while leveraging the experience accumulated by the Sonatrach Group and its subsidiaries, particularly Naftal.

This meeting comes within the context of the new dynamics in Algerian-Burkinabe cooperation relations and in implementation of the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at consolidating African partnerships and enhancing South-South cooperation, especially in strategic sectors with a direct impact on economic and social development.

It is noteworthy that the Burkinabe National Hydrocarbons Company (SONABHY) is a public institution responsible for importing and storing liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, as well as their transport, processing, and marketing, in addition to constructing storage facilities to ensure energy security for Burkina Faso.
