The Director General of the Algerian Highway Authority, Said Si Chaib, has announced a program for highway maintenance scheduled for 2026. In a statement on Wednesday, Si Chaib explained that the authority is currently conducting an economic feasibility study and technical assessment covering 926 kilometers of the East-West Highway, stretching from the borders of Tlemcen province to El Tarf province.
Si Chaib noted that the program focuses on priority sections, including the stretch connecting Birtouta and Khemis El Khechna, which is experiencing significant wear and tear. Other priority areas include the 17-kilometer Constantine bypass, the Bouira-Arbatache section, and a similar stretch in Ain Defla province.
The official confirmed that these sections are a top priority, with preparations underway to begin maintenance work in the near future over a total distance of 51 kilometers. This follows the allocation of the necessary funding within the 2026 Finance Law.
