The Search and Investigation Department of the National Gendarmerie in Annaba has dismantled a criminal network specialized in fraud and scamming the public using information and communication technologies. The network deceived its victims by claiming to be affiliated with Algérie Poste.
According to a statement from the National Gendarmerie, the operation led to the arrest of 10 individuals and the seizure of mobile phones, a laptop, a computer central unit, and a sum of money in national currency estimated at 52,000 dinars. The financial transactions among the network members exceeded 1.6 billion centimes.
A judicial file was prepared, and the suspects were presented before the competent regional judicial authorities. They face charges including forming an organized criminal group to prepare a misdemeanor, fraud and scamming to seize the property of others using information and communication technologies, and compromising automated data processing systems. Additional charges include fraudulently entering, changing, or removing data within an automated system and impersonating others under circumstances that could lead to a criminal record entry for another person.
