The well-known Malian journalist and sports analyst, Mohamed Soumaré, passed away on Wednesday in his apartment in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, while covering the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Official sources have not yet disclosed the cause of death, though some reports suggest it may be related to heart issues. With his passing, the African media landscape loses a prominent figure who previously served as the media officer for Stade Malien and headed the marketing, media, and television department of the Malian Professional League.
Soumaré was born in Algeria and received his primary education in the El Harrach region. He was known for his deep passion for Algerian football and was a supporter of the clubs USM El Harrach and NA Hussein Dey.
