Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boudjemaa, oversaw the opening of an international conference titled “International Arbitration, Sovereignty and Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods” on Saturday morning. The event was organized by the Algerian Bar Association, the National Union of Public Contractors, and the Algerian Economic Renewal Council.
The conference, held at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center, was attended by members of the government, representatives of official bodies, and heads of bar associations.
In his speech, Minister Boudjemaa praised the initiative to establish the Algiers Center for Dispute Resolution, emphasizing that it will contribute to achieving a set of objectives that serve everyone. He noted that Algeria, given its important and strategic geographical location, is qualified to be a regional hub for international commercial arbitration and the settlement of disputes related to investment and international trade.
Boudjemaa added that this center would enhance the attraction of foreign direct investment, which plays a pivotal role in supporting comprehensive economic development. He highlighted that the existence of an accredited national arbitration center is among the basic guarantees that reassure foreign investors.
He also pointed out that this initiative will contribute to strengthening legal and judicial security by ensuring the neutrality, integrity, and independence of the center. He explained that international arbitration is an effective legal tool based on the will of the parties, independence of decision-making, and respect for legal and cultural specificities, which has made it a subject of increasing interest by countries and international institutions as a means to enhance the business climate, attract investment, and achieve legal security.
