The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Yacine Walid, announced the organization of a major campaign next month aimed at planting 5 million trees.
Speaking on Saturday during the official opening of the 39th annual ordinary session of the National Council of the Algerian Islamic Scouts in the capital, alongside Minister of Youth Mustafa Hidaoui, the minister stated: “We will carry out a very large tree-planting campaign next February.”
He added: “Our goal is to plant 5 million trees in just 24 hours.” Although this goal may seem ambitious, the minister noted that “past experience has proven that when Algerians engage in a national objective, these figures become easy to achieve.”
Yacine Walid recalled a previous campaign, noting that the initial goal was “to plant one million trees in cooperation with the Green Algeria association and its president, Fouad Maala, but in the end, we managed to plant 1,410,000 trees.”
He continued: “This achievement was made possible thanks to the cooperation of all segments of Algerian society, as Algerians answered the call, with a very strong presence of the Algerian Islamic Scouts across various provinces.”
