President of Niger, General Abdourahamane Tiani, expressed his deep gratitude on Monday to Algeria for its solidarity with the people of Niger and its respect for the country’s sovereignty and internal political choices.
In a joint statement with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune following their talks at the Presidency of the Republic, the Nigerien President praised the role of the highest Algerian authorities who, despite the desperate attempts of certain powers with neo-colonial tendencies and some directed international and regional organizations, showed solidarity with the people of Niger following the events of July 26, 2023.
He considered this supportive position for respecting Niger’s sovereignty and its internal political choices honors Algeria, its government, and its people. He added, “In any case, no Algerian or African would imagine that Algeria would allow its territory to be used to attack an African country, especially when it concerns the same power that inflicted, for more than a century, unspeakable suffering on the proud Algerian people.”
President Tiani also noted that his presence in Algeria reflects the interest Niger places on strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and bilateral cooperation between the two peoples, governments, and countries, expressing satisfaction with the quality of historical relations between the two peoples and the shared will to revitalize brotherly cooperation and good neighborliness.
He stressed that this visit falls within the framework of the continuous strengthening of the strategic partnership, particularly in the sectors of security, oil, energy, infrastructure, transport, communication, and trade, as well as education and training.
The Nigerien President considered the occasion an opportunity to renew the Nigerien government’s aspirations for both parties to work on accelerating the actual launch and completion of joint projects, notably the major Kafra field project, the dry port in Agadez, the railway line connecting the two countries, and the Trans-Saharan Road.
He pointed out that other equally important projects should be added to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation, including the construction of a dialysis center in Tchirozérine, the renovation and expansion of the Algeria-Niger Friendship Vocational High School in Zinder, the establishment of an Islamic training institute in Agadez, a multi-service clinic in Agadez, and a national center for pedagogical and technical resources in Niamey.
He expressed his conviction that Algeria and Niger will be able to overcome all difficulties and obstacles to achieve significant accomplishments together, within the framework of dialogue, for the benefit of the two countries and peoples.
He concluded by saying, “In this spirit, we have come to your beautiful country as a friend, brother, and neighbor,” expressing his sincere thanks to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the government, and the brotherly Algerian people for the warm brotherly reception he and his accompanying delegation received.
