Traffic Accidents: 38 Killed in One Week

Thirty-eight people were killed and 1,448 others were injured in 1,195 traffic accidents across several provinces between February 8 and 14. According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the General Directorate of Civil Protection, the highest toll was recorded in the province of Tebessa, where five people died and 22 others were injured in 18 traffic accidents.

Furthermore, Civil Protection units carried out 896 interventions to extinguish 541 fires, including residential, industrial, and various other types. The highest numbers were recorded in Algiers with 81 fires, Blida with 39, and Annaba with 23.

During the same period, the services conducted a total of 8,571 interventions to rescue 672 people in danger and carried out 7,417 emergency medical operations.

Regarding accidents related to carbon monoxide poisoning from various heating systems and water heaters, Civil Protection services recorded 34 interventions, providing first aid to 80 people. Four deaths were reported in the provinces of Boumerdes, Algiers, and Bouira.
