The Territorial Brigade of the National Gendarmerie in El Hamiz, Dar El Beïda battalion, in Algiers, has dismantled a criminal network specializing in car theft.
According to a statement from the National Gendarmerie, the operation followed the circulation of a video on social media showing an individual stealing a car from a residential garage in the El Hamiz neighborhood, dragging the owner who was clinging to the front door window.
The statement added that by utilizing the video footage, brigade members launched an investigation to identify the suspects and their location. Following a well-coordinated security plan and in coordination with the competent public prosecutor, the team traveled to a neighboring province, where two individuals were arrested and the stolen vehicle was recovered in a short period.
Upon completion of all legal procedures, the suspects will be presented before the competent judicial authorities for the misdemeanor of forming a criminal gang, the felony of motor vehicle theft using violence and threats, the misdemeanor of trespassing, and the misdemeanor of concealing stolen items.
