Public Holiday in Senegal to Celebrate African Title

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced a paid public holiday across the country today, Monday, to celebrate the national team’s victory in the Africa Cup of Nations. The decision follows a historic night for the Senegalese people after the “Teranga Lions” won the final, adding a new title to their continental record by defeating Morocco 1-0.

In a message posted on the “X” platform, President Faye expressed his great pride in the national team, emphasizing that the players lived up to the trust and responsibility placed in them. He stated that the team “succeeded in raising Senegal’s colors high in the sky of African football” after what he described as an “epic” match that embodied the spirit of challenge and determination until the final whistle.

The Senegalese President praised the heroic performance of the players in the final, considering the achievement a historic victory. He noted that it was accomplished under significant pressure and difficult circumstances, which the team overcame with a high fighting spirit, tactical discipline, and collective solidarity on the field.

The announcement confirms that Monday is a public holiday following the victory in the AFCON 2025 tournament, marking a significant milestone for Senegalese football after their victory over Morocco.
