Melizi Apologizes to Hamlaoui as Latter Withdraws Charges in Court

The President of the Algerian Red Crescent, Ibtissem Hamlaoui, submitted a memorandum through her defense before the Bir Mourad Rais court on Thursday, announcing her pardon of writer Zineb Melizi and a second woman prosecuted in the same case.

For their part, the defense for the two defendants submitted a file during the session that included their apologies to Hamlaoui. Melizi explained that she had attempted to visit her at her office to offer a direct apology, but her request was rejected, prompting her to send a written apology through her lawyer.

Melizi and the other defendant were prosecuted on charges related to defamation through offensive comments and posts on social media targeting Hamlaoui. The verdict in this case is expected to be delivered next Thursday.
