The President of the Constitutional Court, Leila Aslaoui, emphasized that the holding of the 19th session of the Executive Bureau of the Conference of African Constitutional Jurisdictions holds “special importance as it is organized under the high patronage of the President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.”
During her speech at the opening of the session at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers, Aslaoui highlighted the importance of this “continental space that embodies our common will to promote constitutional justice and strengthen cooperation between its bodies.”
The speaker added that the conference “is a strong indication of the great care given by the Algerian state at its highest levels to promote constitutional justice and support cooperation within the African space.”
Aslaoui explained that today’s meeting reflects “our deep belief in the pivotal role played by constitutional judicial bodies in consolidating the rule of law, preserving the supremacy of the constitution, protecting rights and freedoms, and promoting the principles of democracy and good governance.”
She also stressed that “Algeria, in fulfillment of its principles and its firm African commitment, supports all initiatives aimed at enshrining the independence of the constitutional judiciary and strengthening its position as the guarantor of the balance of powers, the faithful guardian of constitutional legitimacy, and the mechanism for resolving disputes between authorities.”
She continued: “The 2020 constitutional amendment initiated by the President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is a pivotal milestone in Algeria’s constitutional path, as it came in response to the aspirations of the Algerian people to deepen the state of law and justice.”
