Seven Arrested and Over 24 kg of Treated Cannabis Seized

The Algiers security services arrested seven individuals and seized more than 24 kg of treated cannabis during the past week, according to a statement released on Saturday.

The statement explained that the Algiers security services, represented by the anti-drug trafficking squad of the first judicial police district in Algiers Center, managed to arrest seven suspects and seize over 24 kg of treated cannabis.

The operation followed intensive field investigations that allowed investigators to uncover the activities of a criminal network specializing in illegal drug trafficking. The members were identified and subsequently arrested, leading to the seizure of the narcotics.

Carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, the operation resulted in the seizure of 24.3 kg of treated cannabis, a sum of 2.2 million Algerian Dinars (220 million centimes) in proceeds from the drug trade, and seven passenger vehicles used for transporting the substances.

Following the completion of legal procedures, the suspects were presented before the Sidi M’hamed Court on charges of illegal drug trafficking, the felony of illegal drug importation, drug trafficking within an organized criminal group, storage, offering for sale, transport, and money laundering.
