The Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Sayoud, highlighted on Friday in the Gara Djebilet area of Tindouf province that the Gara Djebilet mine exploitation project will significantly contribute to a profound transformation of the economic and social landscape in the southwest and the country as a whole. He noted that Algeria has effectively begun exploiting its mining resources and putting them into service under the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In a statement to the media, Sayoud—who was accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation including the Minister of State and Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab; the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Abdelkader Kallaoui; the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi; and the State Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Mines in charge of Mines, Karima Bakir Tafer—explained that the exploitation of the Gara Djebilet mine has entered its operational phase in record time. He indicated that subsequent stages will involve the exploitation of the phosphate mine in Bled El Hadba in the east of the country, as part of a comprehensive national vision aimed at diversifying the national economy and reducing dependence on hydrocarbons.
In this context, the spokesperson emphasized that these achievements were realized in a short period, with the mining line expected to enter service soon. He added that connecting the Gara Djebilet mine to the national railway network allows for the transport of iron ore from the far southwest to Oran and subsequently to other provinces across the country.
The Minister also expressed great pride in the historic achievement of constructing a railway line nearly 940 kilometers long in less than two years. He considered the exploitation of this mine a long-awaited dream for Algerians that has now become a tangible reality, thanks to the strong presence of the state and its reliance on Algerian expertise and companies, both in terms of human resources and material capabilities.
Furthermore, he praised the prominent role played by national cadres and Algerian youth in realizing these strategic projects, stressing that the achievements will open new horizons for a diversified economy.
The ministerial delegation began its field visit to Tindouf province by inspecting the train station in the provincial capital, where they received detailed explanations about the various facilities provided for passengers, before taking a trial train trip from Tindouf toward Gara Djebilet.
