The New York Times reported on Sunday that Iran has deployed ballistic missile launchers along its western border with Iraq, sufficient to target the Zionist entity, and along its southern shores on the Gulf within range of U.S. military bases and other targets in the region.
The newspaper added, citing members of the Revolutionary Guard and high-ranking officials, that Iran has raised the state of maximum alert across all its armed forces and is preparing for fierce resistance.
Sources stated that in the event of war, police special forces units, intelligence personnel, and battalions of the secret Basij elements belonging to the Revolutionary Guard will be deployed in the streets of major cities. These elements will set up checkpoints to prevent internal unrest and search for agents linked to foreign intelligence agencies.
The newspaper reported, citing the same sources, that Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has issued instructions to his close advisor Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and several political and military associates to ensure the survival of the regime in the face of various threats, whether American or Israeli military strikes or attempts to target or assassinate the top leadership, including the Supreme Leader himself.
For his part, the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Iranian Army, Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi, stated that his forces are at a high state of readiness and are capable of eliminating any threat in its infancy.
