Petkovic’s contract extended until 2029

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has offered national team coach Vladimir Petkovic a contract extension until 2029, rather than 2028 as previously reported. This move follows the positive results achieved by the national team since he took over technical leadership, as well as the start of preparations for the 2030 World Cup.

The federation’s desire to extend Petkovic’s contract also comes in response to offers he received from several other federations, including the Polish Football Association, prompting the FAF to act quickly to secure his long-term commitment.

In parallel, as part of preparations for the 2026 World Cup to be held in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, the national team will face the Netherlands and Italy on June 3 and 7, respectively. These two matches will serve as the final preparation stage for Petkovic’s squad before participating in the tournament.

The national team is also expected to be bolstered by two new goalkeepers: Melvin Faisal Mastil, a 1.96m tall goalkeeper for Swiss club Stade Nyonnais known for his penalty-saving skills, and Abdallah Laidani, a graduate of the Young Boys academy and current goalkeeper for FC Wil. Laidani is expected to join the national team during the upcoming training camp in Italy next March, which will include two friendly matches against Guatemala and Uruguay.
