The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Yacine Mahdi Walid, presided over a ceremony on Monday at the Sheraton Hotel in Algiers to honor those who contributed to the success of the major afforestation campaign.
In his speech, Yacine Walid revealed that more than 5.9 million seedlings were provided for the campaign, which saw participation from citizens across the country.
The Minister added that one of the campaign’s objectives is to achieve an economic impact, noting that 100,000 Argan trees were planted, along with Carob, Olive, and other trees with high economic yields.
For his part, the Minister of Youth in charge of the Supreme Youth Council, Mustapha Hidaoui, expressed his satisfaction with the involvement of all Algerians in the effort to preserve vegetation and forest cover.
He added that there is currently a collective awareness and a genuine sense of duty toward nature and forests, stating that Algeria provides an impressive model of public engagement in the goal of planting trees.
On February 14, a major afforestation campaign was organized under the supervision of Minister Yacine Mahdi Walid to plant 5 million trees throughout the country.
