U.S. President Donald Trump has approved a state of emergency declaration in ten states across the southeastern United States as a winter storm advances across large areas of the country.
In a post on the “Truth Social” platform, the U.S. President announced his approval of emergency declarations in the states of Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana, and West Virginia.
Trump stated that the administration is working in close coordination with state governors and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which earlier this week halted the sudden layoff of relief workers as part of storm preparations.
Snow and ice cover an area of more than 2,000 kilometers across the United States and continue to move eastward, soon to affect more than 3,000 kilometers from Texas to New England over the weekend.
More than 13,000 flights have been canceled due to the storm, and sections of highways have been closed due to hazardous road conditions in the storm zone.
