Road accidents: 31 killed in one week

Thirty-one people were killed and 1,438 others were injured in 1,213 road accidents across several provinces between February 15 and 21, according to a statement from the General Directorate of Civil Protection on Tuesday.

The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Ain Defla, where seven people died and 28 others were injured in 26 road accidents.

In other operations, Civil Protection units carried out 910 interventions to extinguish 554 fires, including residential, industrial, and various other types. The highest numbers were recorded in Algiers (72 fires), Blida (32), and Annaba (28).

During the same period, the services conducted 5,969 different operations to rescue 451 people in danger and provided coverage for 5,215 ambulance operations.

Regarding accidents related to carbon monoxide poisoning from heating systems and water heaters, Civil Protection services performed 23 interventions during the same period, providing first aid to 53 people, while one death was recorded in the province of Souk Ahras.
