Doctors’ Union Files Complaint Against ‘The Migrant’ Series with Regulatory Authority

The National Union of Public Health Practitioners filed a complaint on Tuesday with the Audiovisual Regulatory Authority regarding an episode of the series “The Migrant,” which is being broadcast on the “Al-Hayat” channel during the Ramadan 2026 season.

According to the union’s statement, the complaint concerns an episode set in “Kouba Hospital” in the capital. The scene depicts what the union described as “unacceptable professional behavior” by a doctor harassing a patient while performing his professional duties, an act that contradicts the principles of medical ethics.

The statement added that the scene conveys a negative image of the medical profession and the specific hospital to the viewing public, particularly as such clips are widely circulated on social media platforms.

While the National Union of Public Health Practitioners acknowledged that such “anomalous and unacceptable” behaviors can occur within the health sector and other professional fields, it expressed its rejection of portraying such conduct in a television program during the holy month of Ramadan.

The union argued that the program targets the noble status and social and moral value of the medical profession, which is fundamentally based on a relationship of trust and respect with patients and healthcare facility users.

As an accredited organization representing public sector medical staff in Algeria, the union called on the regulatory authority to intervene and take the necessary decisions regarding the matter.
