New projects to ease traffic congestion in the capital

The Governor of Algiers, Mohamed Abdennour Rabehi, chaired a meeting of the province’s executive council dedicated to monitoring and discussing several development files. According to a statement from the provincial services, the meeting began with a presentation on the “Yellow Plan,” which covers structural projects scheduled to launch this year aimed at easing traffic congestion, particularly in the eastern districts of the capital, such as the neighborhoods in the municipalities of Bordj El Kiffan and Bordj El Bahri.

In this context, two projects were recorded for the construction of a 14-kilometer coastal tourist road from Oued El Harrach to Tamentfoust, of which 9 kilometers have already been completed. Additionally, a new 4.7-kilometer bypass road toward El Marsa and Ain Taya is planned. The projects also include the construction and expansion of new roads in various areas of the capital.

The presentation included plans for three new train stations to facilitate citizen movement to the city center. Work has already begun on a new station in the municipality of Rahmania, located on the line leading toward the new city of Sidi Abdellah and Zeralda. Construction will also begin on two additional stations in Kourifa (El Harrach) and El Hamiz (Dar El Beida).

According to the statement from the Algiers province, the Yellow Plan includes significant structural projects such as the construction of multi-modal stations and the expansion of electric rail lines, specifically extending metro and tramway lines as well as cable car transport lines.

The Governor issued instructions to accelerate administrative procedures and announce tenders to select construction companies. He also emphasized the need for regular field visits to monitor progress and address any obstacles.

The meeting also addressed the status of the “Blue Plan,” which includes several projects extending from Djamila Port in Ain Benian to Tamentfoust in the municipality of El Marsa. This plan focuses on reclaiming sea areas for use in constructing coastal and tourist roads and recreational spaces. Several projects are currently being implemented, while studies are being prepared for others.

Furthermore, the presentation covered the progress of projects managed by municipalities, including road construction and maintenance, sewage systems, and the development of educational facilities. The statement noted that these projects are showing satisfactory progress in several municipalities, unlike others.

In this regard, the Governor of Algiers instructed delegated governors to organize periodic meetings and field visits to follow up on these projects. He stressed the importance of launching and delivering projects within the same year and emphasized the necessity of settling outstanding financial payments for construction companies.
