Civil Protection: 50 Fires Extinguished, 4 Still Under Control Efforts
Algeria’s Civil Protection services have provided an update on the wildfire situation between August 4 and 5, 2026, as of 07:00 a.m., reporting significant progress in firefighting operations across the country.
According to the official statement, a total of 54 fires were recorded during this period, of which 50 have been successfully extinguished. However, four fires remain active and are still under control operations.
These ongoing fires are distributed across two provinces: one in Tizi Ouzou and three in Jijel.
In Tizi Ouzou, a forest fire in the municipality of Ain El Hammam has been brought under control, with teams currently working on cooling down remaining hotspots to prevent any flare-ups.
In Jijel, several incidents were reported. In the municipality of El Ancer, a brush and scrub fire is also in its final stage, with cooling operations underway. In Ouajana, another similar fire has been fully contained, while in Ouled Rabah (Bouchkar area), firefighters are still working on extinguishing residual hotspots.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing ongoing efforts to fully eliminate remaining risks and prevent the spread of fires, especially amid challenging weather conditions.
