Forest Spaces and Public Parks Closed in the Capital

The authorities of the Algiers province announced on Tuesday that all forest spaces and public parks will be temporarily closed, specifically the Sablettes Promenade, the Hamma Botanical Garden, the Ben Aknoun Zoo and Leisure Park, the Kittani Promenade, the Borouba Water Spring Park, and the Eco Park in Oued Smar. The closure is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, January 28 and 29.

The authorities explained that the decision was based on a bulletin issued by the National Meteorological Office on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. The bulletin includes a Level 3 Red Alert warning of very strong winds expected from Tuesday night, January 27, at 9:00 PM until Thursday, January 29, at 12:00 PM. Wind speeds are expected to range between 60 and 90 km/h, with gusts potentially exceeding 120 km/h on Wednesday, January 28, from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Citizens are urged to adhere to safety rules and exercise caution by following these guidelines: avoid forest areas, open public spaces, and coastal regions; secure or remove flowerpots and any objects prone to falling from balconies and rooftops; avoid standing or passing near trees and power poles; and reduce driving speed while maintaining a firm grip on the steering wheel, especially during sudden gusts of wind.
