On Tuesday, the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Sayoud, met with representatives of transport unions. The meeting followed the approval of the draft traffic law by members of the People’s National Assembly.
In his speech, Minister Sayoud emphasized that this meeting is part of the discussions initiated by the President of the Republic regarding the new traffic law project. He stated that the joint committee established for this purpose held several meetings to discuss the articles under dispute between the two chambers of Parliament.
He added, “Many articles were reformulated, and certain terms were removed, particularly those related to criminalization. Yesterday, 11 disputed articles were presented, and the entire traffic law was approved unanimously.”
The Minister of Interior and Transport noted that the value of fines has been reviewed to align with the financial capabilities of citizens and transporters. He stressed that his department is working to “provide the necessary resources for the effective and serious implementation of this law.”
The Minister also emphasized that “this law is not a penal code, and we do not intend to punish our citizens; rather, we aim to organize public life by involving all stakeholders.” He reiterated that “all issues and reservations that were raised have been addressed.”
