The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications announced on Tuesday that the scheduled maintenance work on the SMW4 fiber optic submarine cable at the Palermo station in Italy has been successfully completed according to the set schedule.
The Ministry confirmed that the maintenance process had no significant impact on the quality of internet service in Algeria, thanks to proactive technical measures taken by Algérie Télécom. Capacity from the cable under maintenance was rerouted to other backup submarine cables to ensure service continuity and maintain usual connection speeds, according to a ministry statement.
The Ministry also took this opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to monitoring the readiness of international telecommunications infrastructure and working on establishing more cables to ensure the quality of international internet connectivity in Algeria.
