Minister of Interior, Local Communities, and Transport, Saïd Saayoud, confirmed that he has held several meetings with union representatives since his appointment to the transport sector, where various issues were discussed, particularly those related to the traffic law.
During a meeting held on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters to address the concerns of transport union representatives, Saayoud stated that the meeting was convened at the request of the President of the Republic to clarify all points concerning the traffic law.
He added that regarding the approved amendments to the traffic law, the clause concerning involuntary manslaughter for truck drivers has been removed, and fines have been reduced.
The Minister emphasized that the objective is not to punish transporters but to penalize violators, noting that the doors for dialogue remain open.
Members of the People’s National Assembly approved the text of the traffic law on Monday, following the report of the joint committee regarding the provisions under dispute between the two chambers of parliament.
