Reuters reported on Thursday that officials from President Donald Trump’s administration informed Congress this week that the first six days of the war on Iran have cost the United States at least $11.3 billion.
According to the same source, officials disclosed this figure during a closed session with members of the Senate last Tuesday. The amount does not represent the total cost of the war but was provided to lawmakers who requested more information about the conflict.
The source added that the White House will soon submit a request to Congress for additional war funding. Some officials indicated the request could reach $50 billion, while others suggested this estimate might be low. Meanwhile, the U.S. administration has not provided a public assessment of the conflict’s cost or a clear idea of its expected duration.
Administration officials also informed lawmakers that $5.6 billion worth of munitions were used during the first two days of the strikes.
The escalation in the Middle East began on February 28 with U.S. and Israeli airstrikes, which have claimed the lives of approximately 2,000 people so far, most of whom are Iranians and Lebanese. The conflict has extended into Lebanon and caused chaos in global energy and transportation markets.
