Agreement between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to Digitize Consular Services

A signing ceremony was held on Thursday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and National Planning, represented by the General Directorate of National Security. The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in digitizing several consular services. The ceremony took place in the presence of Sofiane Chaib, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the National Community Abroad, and was signed by Lounès Magramane, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ali Badaoui, Director General of National Security.

During his speech, the Secretary General emphasized that this agreement represents a new milestone in the modernization of consular services, which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers a top priority. This reflects the special importance the President of the Republic attaches to the national community abroad as an integral part of the Algerian nation. This dimension received particular attention during the conference of heads of consular centers held in February 2026, which resulted in several related recommendations.

The agreement aims to accelerate the processing times for consular services by adopting a new digital system in line with the national strategy for digital transformation. It also embodies the shared commitment of the Foreign Affairs and Interior sectors to establish an integrated approach based on strengthening coordination and intensifying cooperation. This supports the state’s efforts to modernize administration and improve public services provided both within the country and abroad.
