Algerian boxer Basma Bahri (57 kg) qualified for the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Dakar, after reaching the quarter-finals of the Boxing World Cup currently taking place in the Thai capital, Bangkok.
With this achievement, Basma Bahri becomes the first Algerian athlete to secure qualification for these games, which will be held for the first time on the African continent, scheduled from October 31 to November 13 in the Senegalese capital, Dakar.
The Algerian national team participated in the global event in Bangkok with seven boxers (4 females and 3 males), under the supervision of national coaches Makhlouf Ibrahim and Erwan Amine (females), while the male team was led by national coaches Bournan Ibrahim and Abdelhafid Benchabla.
The global event served as an important milestone for Algerian boxers to gain experience and attempt to secure qualification spots for the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
The World Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok will continue until tomorrow, Sunday, with the finals being held.
