USM Alger suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Congolese side Maniema Union in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals.
The “Soustara” side started the match well, but the hosts managed to open the scoring in the 41st minute through a penalty kick, which concluded the first half.
In the second half, USM Alger managed to equalize in the 53rd minute through player Khaldi, who converted a penalty into a goal.
However, the parity did not last long, as the hosts scored their second goal in the 65th minute, ending the match with a loss for USM Alger.
The return leg will be held at the July 5 Stadium next Sunday, March 22.
