EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas emphasized on Tuesday the need to find diplomatic ways to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.
Kallas stated in an interview that “no one is ready to put their people at risk in the Strait of Hormuz.”
She added, “We must find diplomatic ways to keep this strait open so that we do not face a food crisis, a fertilizer crisis, or an energy crisis as well.”
At the same time, U.S. President Donald Trump called on allies to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to secure passage amid the war on Iran.
The Oil Minister stated on Tuesday that Baghdad is in contact with Iran to allow the passage of some oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
This contact comes as part of Iraq’s efforts to mitigate the impact of crude export disruptions following the latest attacks on oil tankers in Iraqi territorial waters.
Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani said in a video statement released on Monday that Iraq is also seeking to resume operations of a halted pipeline that allows oil to be pumped directly to the Turkish port of Ceyhan without passing through the Kurdistan region.
