Yesterday, joint detachments of the People’s National Army, following an ambush in the Arak area of Tamanrasset province in the Sixth Military Region, eliminated an armed smuggler. According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense, the operation resulted in the recovery of two FMPK machine guns, a Kalashnikov-type submachine gun, and the seizure of a four-wheel-drive vehicle loaded with 1.5 million hallucinogenic tablets, a Thuraya satellite communication device, three magazines, and a quantity of ammunition.
This second qualitative operation follows an operation on March 15, 2026, during which armed smugglers were neutralized and 1.6 million hallucinogenic tablets were seized, along with a Kalashnikov-type submachine gun. This brings the total amount of seized items to 3.1 million hallucinogenic tablets within two days.
The two operations, carried out in a short period within the same territory, confirm the scale of the threat along the border strip and highlight the daily efforts made by members of the People’s National Army to combat these criminals with firm resolve.
