President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, sent a message on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of Victory Day.
Addressing the citizens, the President stated that March 19 marks Victory Day, the day that announced the end of colonial dominance lasting more than 130 years. He described the era as one of unjust settler colonialism, devoid of human values and characterized by killing, destruction, and looting, yet trembling before the power of truth and the universal laws that have historically favored those seeking the freedom inherent in human nature.
The President noted that the Algerian people were granted victory through a glorious and eternal revolution led by heroes who believed in either a life of dignity or martyrdom so that Algeria might live. He referenced the national resolve, stating, “We revolted, so it is life or death, and we have resolved that Algeria shall live.” This revolution was embraced by a people deeply rooted in their land and identity, continuing from November 1, 1954, until achieving a victory recorded in modern history despite rivers of blood, widespread destruction, and systematic looting. He emphasized that a people who endured such hardships carry a sacred trust and continue their journey guided by the message of the martyrs.
The message expressed gratitude for the loyalty to these sacrifices in Algeria, which currently faces the challenges of building economic immunity and strengthening its sovereignty amid turbulent regional and international conditions. The President highlighted that the nation has defined its path, prioritizing the enhancement of national economic capabilities through major, integrated structural achievements within a multi-front strategic development project. This vision is being realized on the ground through sincere national will and concerted efforts dedicated to protecting state interests and serving the people.
The President concluded by affirming a belief in a victorious Algeria through the participation of all, fulfilling the hopes of Algerians. On this 64th anniversary of Victory Day, he paid tribute to the souls of the righteous martyrs and renewed the pledge of loyalty to their message, ending with, “Long live Algeria, free, proud, and dignified.”
