President Tebboune Confirms Algeria and Italy’s Satisfaction with Progress in Bilateral Cooperation

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed on Wednesday the satisfaction of Algeria and Italy with the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation in recent years and the significant convergence of positions on numerous regional and international issues.

In a joint media statement with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, following talks held at the Presidency of the Republic, the President expressed his deep appreciation for Meloni’s commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two friendly nations.

After explaining that the working and friendship visit by the Italian Prime Minister to Algeria allowed for a review of bilateral relations, the President noted that both parties expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in bilateral cooperation over recent years.

The President also praised the efforts made by Algeria and Italy to strengthen coordination in combating illegal migration, human trafficking, terrorism, cross-border crime, and various security issues in the Mediterranean region.

On the regional and international levels, the President added that the talks provided an opportunity to exchange views on several issues of common interest, noting a significant convergence of positions on many files.

Regarding the situation in Africa, the President pointed out that he reviewed with the Italian Prime Minister the key outcomes of the second Africa-Italy Conference held last month in Addis Ababa. He added, “We expressed our concern regarding the situation in the Sahel and our commitment to addressing challenges related to combating terrorism and organized crime in this vital region for Africa and the Mediterranean basin.”

He also touched upon the prevailing situation in Libya, stating, “We emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to find urgent solutions that enable this country to overcome the deadlock and ensure its unity and the sovereignty of the brotherly Libyan people over their land. We also renewed our support for the efforts of the United Nations mission in Libya.”
