Discussing ways to enhance Algerian-Swiss relations

Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, held talks today, Thursday, in Bern with Federal Councilor Ignazio Cassis, Vice President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting allowed for a comprehensive and in-depth assessment of various dimensions and axes of Algerian-Swiss relations. It also provided an opportunity to discuss ways to elevate them to broader horizons by strengthening political dialogue, consolidating economic partnership, and valuing the human dimension of cooperation between the two countries.

In this regard, it was agreed to create an institutional mechanism for developing bilateral cooperation and strengthening the legal framework governing bilateral relations, in line with priorities to be jointly determined.

Furthermore, the two ministers discussed several international and regional issues of common interest, such as current developments in the Middle East and the latest situation in the Sahel-Saharan region.

On the sidelines of the talks, the Minister of State, along with his Swiss counterpart, listened to a presentation on the historical relations between Algeria and Switzerland, particularly the contribution of Swiss friends in supporting the Algerian people during the liberation revolution and their prominent role in facilitating the Evian negotiations that culminated in Algeria’s independence.

In this regard, the two ministers emphasized the importance of valuing this shared historical legacy and building upon it to continue the traditions of support, solidarity, and friendship between the two countries.
