US Military Takes Control of Iranian Waters After Peace Talks Collapse

The United States military announced Monday it will impose full control over all maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports and coastal regions, following the collapse of high-stakes peace negotiations that failed to produce a ceasefire agreement.

Talks held in Islamabad — stretching from Saturday into early Sunday — marked the first direct face-to-face engagement between Washington and Tehran in over a decade, and the highest-level diplomatic contact since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The negotiations came days after a fragile ceasefire took hold on Tuesday, aimed at ending six weeks of devastating conflict that claimed thousands of lives across the Gulf region, severely disrupted vital energy supplies, and raised fears of a broader regional war. The naval blockade now threatens to shatter that two-week-old truce entirely.
