Algeria’s ‘Tariq Ibn Ziyad’ Ferry Returns Home After Two-Year Renovation in Greece

Algeria’s iconic passenger ferry ‘Tariq Ibn Ziyad’ has officially returned to Algiers port following the completion of extensive maintenance and modernization works carried out at a repair facility in Greece, spanning over two years.

To mark the vessel’s docking at Algiers port, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Jamal Eddine Abdelghani Dridi, conducted a full inspection of the ship, examining its passenger areas, security and safety equipment, and engine room — acting on directives from Minister Said Saoud.

Following the inspection, Dridi congratulated the renovation crew and stressed the importance of delivering top-quality services to passengers, as well as ensuring regular maintenance to preserve the vessel’s operational readiness.

Officials also confirmed that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure a successful summer 2026 season, particularly for Algerian diaspora communities abroad.
