Relizane province is set to produce 131,250 quintals of seasonal potatoes during the current 2025-2026 agricultural harvest campaign, dzwatch has learned.
Houcine Jabbar, Head of the Production Organization and Technical Support Service, told dzwatch that the expected yield will be harvested across approximately 398 hectares, with an average productivity estimated at 330 quintals per hectare.
The majority of potato fields are concentrated in the regions of Hamadna, Oued Djemaa, Sidi Khettab, Belassel, and Yellel — areas renowned for their high agricultural output. Jabbar noted that 60% of potato fields are located in Belassel and Sidi Khettab alone.
For comparison, the previous 2024-2025 season’s combined seasonal and off-season potato campaign in Relizane yielded nearly 163,000 quintals, underscoring the province’s vital role in Algeria’s strategic food security program.
