During a lecture held on Monday, attended by Minister of Communication Mohamed Laagab, audience measurement specialist Badis Khaldi discussed the dynamics of television viewership across channels. Khaldi, a former sales director at Eutelsat and founder of the startup Audimat for audience measurement, shared insights from his company’s advancements in tracking viewership of both traditional and modern media outlets. He stressed the importance of elevating content to attract higher viewership rates and meet audience expectations, noting that viewership rates are constantly fluctuating, and no single channel consistently leads amid intense media competition.

Khaldi emphasized that television channels’ viewership rates are always changing, attributing this to the nature of the programs and content offered, as well as shifts in viewing times. Advertisers and marketers are continually seeking to reach the widest audience by targeting the most-watched programs.

He also highlighted the role of television channels in attracting as many viewers as possible, contributing to the formation of public opinion aligned with the nation’s strategic goals and countering threats to national unity.

Minister Laagab concluded the lecture by urging television channel directors and all stakeholders to stay informed about general strategies and techniques for measuring viewership. He pointed out that today’s competition lies in programming, with the primary goal being to develop content that attracts the largest audience.

The lecture, attended by the head of the Audiovisual Regulatory Authority, directors of public and private media institutions, and journalists from various outlets, signals a move towards ending arbitrary practices in viewership measurement, particularly those on demand.
