Two Algerian AI Projects Compete for Global Recognition at WSIS Prizes 2026 — Your Vote Counts

Algeria is making waves on the global digital innovation stage, with two groundbreaking projects led by Dr. Kouribaa Zaki now among the top finalists at the prestigious WSIS Prizes 2026 competition, which celebrates world-class contributions to the information society.

Project 1: AI-Driven Building Footprint for FTTH Inclusive Connectivity Planning (Category AL C3 – Access to Information and Knowledge) uses satellite imagery and AI algorithms to map building footprints, pinpoint underserved areas, and enable smarter planning for fiber optic (FTTH) networks — directly tackling Algeria’s digital divide.

Project 2: DZ-CheckNews (Category AL C9 – Media) is an AI-powered platform designed to verify news and information related to Algerian institutions, detect suspicious links, and combat misinformation — empowering citizens to distinguish fact from fiction.

Public voting is now open. Cast your vote at the official link: itu.int/wsis/prizes/2026/vote and help Algeria claim global digital excellence.
