The ongoing global energy crisis, fueled by escalating tensions in the Middle East, is steering the European Union firmly toward Algeria as a critical long-term energy partner.
EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, has launched a high-level visit to Algiers, beginning today and continuing through tomorrow, signaling Europe’s urgent pivot toward securing Algerian energy supplies.
Senior Algerian officials told dzwatch that the EU envoy will hold key meetings with Algerian counterparts, with the energy file topping the agenda. Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab will meet Šuica to discuss what he described as ‘long-term energy partnership between the EU and Algeria, and joint pathways toward a green transition.’
This visit is part of an accelerating series of European high-level engagements with Algiers since the Middle East conflict erupted, as Europe scrambles to secure gas supplies following severe disruptions caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
